Mac Agent

The Logentries Mac agent is a derivative of the Linux based agent, and therefore follows most of the same installation steps and configuration. The following page will walk customers through deploying the Mac agent to any intel-based Mac server or laptop.

Download and Install

To download the Mac agent, run the following command from a terminal on OS X:

curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/logentries/le/master/install/mac/install.sh
chmod +x install.sh

Then install the agent by running:

sudo ./install.sh

Configuration

After install, the Logentries agent can be invoked from the command line by executing:

sudo le

This command will give you the syntax of possible arguments. To add a new file to be followed, the command is:

sudo le follow /path/to/log

After following new logs, customers will need to restart the Mac daemon by executing the following commands:

sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logentries.agent.plist
sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logentries.agent.plist

How do I remove the Mac Agent?

To remove the Mac agent:

Stop and remove the daemon from the command line terminal

$ sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logentries.agent.plist
$ sudo rm /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.logentries.agent.plist

Then remove the executable:

$ sudo rm /usr/bin/le
